DRESS CODES
Dance is a disciplined art form and must be respected as such. In order for the instructor to teach effectively, see proper body alignment, and make necessary corrections, the dancer must be dressed appropriately. Also, hair must be secured out of the face in a style suitable for the student’s class level. The Turning Pointe Dress Code is designed to encourage unity and discipline among its students, minimize in-class distractions, and maximize physical ability. In the grand tradition of classical ballet and out of respect for the art form, we strive to have a clean, uniformed look for our students in all dance classes.
In order to achieve this goal, students are required to purchase and wear the proper uniform for each class and performance.
LEOTARDS: Girls in 1st - 5th Postition Classes will wear a Dress Code class/level leotard in a specific style and color. Leotards are purchased through Discount Dance.
Two-twos, Pre-Ballet, and Kinder ballet may wear classical leotards in style and color of personal choice.
ALL girls are encouraged to also purchase a spaghetti or clear strap, flesh colored leotard to wear under their performance costumes, to facilitate costume changing while in the dressing room with their class.
TIGHTS: All Girls will wear pink-footed tights. Covertable style tights are recommended.
BALLET SHOES: Pink ballet shoes, either lether or cavas. Split Sole shoes are recommended. Ballet slippers must never be worn outdoors, as this tracks dirt into the studio and is detrimental to the floors, dangerous for the students, and damaging to the shoes.
SKIRTS: Are optional but must not interfere with the student’s ability to dance and the teacher’s capacity to see proper movement.
LEG WARMERS: Are only suitable for warm-up prior to class or by permission of the teacher.
UNDERPANTS: Are not necessary under tights and are discouraged.
BOYS: Should wear black shorts, black jazz pants, or tights, white t-shirt, or black or white tank style shirt and black ballet shoes with black or white socks. Older boys should wear a dance belt or athletic supporter.
HAIR: Dancers with long hair should secure it off of the face and out of the eyes. Younger dancers may wear a ponytail while 1st -5th Position dancers should secure their hair in a bun. Short hair should be styled to be out of the eyes.
OUTER WEAR: For their safety, all students must wear street shoes and clothing that covers their dance attire when they are outside of the studio.
